Determine the website structure

When determining the structure or navigation of your website, you want to keep your audience's needs and goals in mind to ensure that you maximize efficiency. Thus, in order to prioritize the order in which material is presented, you should use the results of the task analysis to:

• Prioritize information- Information should be organized so that the most important material can be quickly and easily located. Thus, your website should be structured based on the answers to the following questions:
  • Why will users be coming to your site?
  • What are their goals for your site?
  • How often will users view your site?
• Determine what will be on the home page- The most important and frequently used information should be included on the home page. The home page should reflect users' goals for your site.

• Create a site map- A site map is a visual representation of the structure of your website that will allow users to gain a better understanding of the content, functions, and features included on your site.
